Frequently Asked Questions about Hair Transplant in Mauritius

1. When should I wash my hair after the transplant?
You should start washing your hair the day after the procedure to cleanse the scalp and gently remove any scabs. A professional will demonstrate the first wash at the clinic.

2. How should I wash my hair?
Use lukewarm water and gentle water pressure. Apply shampoo to your palm, lather it with the other hand using circular motions, and then lightly tap the foam onto the transplanted area. Rinse thoroughly to ensure no shampoo residue remains.

3. How should I dry my hair after washing?
Pat your hair gently with a towel—avoid rubbing. You may use a hairdryer on a low-temperature setting but do not direct airflow directly onto the transplanted area. Avoid brushing or styling.

4. How often should I wash my hair?
Wash your hair daily until all scabs have disappeared, typically within 10-15 days after the procedure. After this period, you can resume your regular hair-washing routine.

5. What should I do if I notice redness or infection?
If you see signs of infection or redness in the donor area, apply an anti-inflammatory cream with antibiotics several times a day for one week.

6. What if I develop folliculitis?
If a transplanted hair appears like an acne-like bump (folliculitis), wait until it matures, then disinfect it and, if necessary, gently pierce it with a sterile needle.

7. When will my transplanted hair start growing?
Hair regrowth typically begins between 3 to 8 months post-procedure. It is normal for some transplanted hairs to fall out initially—this does not affect the root, which will continue to grow new hair.

8. What is Shock Loss, and should I be concerned?
In rare cases, some of your original hair in both the donor and recipient areas may fall out temporarily due to Shock Loss. However, these hairs will grow back over time.

9. Will I experience pain during or after the procedure?
The procedure involves minimal pain, as local anesthesia is used to ensure comfort during the process.

10. How long does it take for the donor area to heal?
Non-extracted hairs will regrow immediately, similar to beard growth. Small pinkish marks in the donor area will fade within 3 to 4 days. Tiny scabs at the root of each graft will disappear within 10 to 15 days with regular shampooing.

11. Can I exercise or go swimming after the transplant?
Avoid intense physical activities, swimming with head submersion, saunas, and steam rooms for at least 15 days. Do not wear a motorcycle helmet for 3 weeks. You may swim in a pool or the sea as long as you do not submerge your head.

12. How should I protect my scalp from the sun?
If you are exposed to the sun for prolonged periods, wear a cap, bandana, or hat to protect the transplanted area.

13. How does the experience of the medical team impact the results?
The survival rate of transplanted hair is significantly influenced by the expertise of the medical team. Our team of 15 specialists ensures minimal time between graft extraction and implantation to maximise hair survival and density.
